Australia, Germany Forge Stronger Defense, Space Collaboration

(MENAFN) Australia and Germany have agreed to deepen bilateral ties across defense and space sectors, unveiling a suite of landmark agreements Thursday in Canberra.

Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles and his German counterpart Boris Pistorius met at Parliament House before jointly announcing that the two nations will pursue a status of forces agreement — a framework designed to streamline the ability of each country's armed forces to operate on the other's soil.

Beyond the military cooperation pact, the two ministers revealed that Australia and Germany have formally signed a letter of intent to advance collaboration in space capabilities. In a further show of commitment, the Australian government also confirmed it will sign a letter of cooperation with TDW, the German missile manufacturer, signaling a significant step toward closer defense-industrial ties between the two allies.

The announcements mark a notable expansion of Australia's strategic partnerships in Europe, as Canberra moves to diversify and reinforce its defense relationships amid a rapidly shifting global security landscape.
